Special Projects

Special Projects focus on initiatives that are best delivered through the CAR-WEN Working Group itself—especially when individual government agencies lack the capacity, resources, or regional scope needed to succeed.

Our key special project activities include:

  1. Building an App-based Platform for Network Activities & Enforcement Workflows. Developing an integrated platform or software solution that streamlines communication, network activities, and enforcement coordination.

  2. Creating Laws & Regulations Database. Designing and maintaining user-friendly databases featuring wildlife laws and regulations from all Caribbean states and territories, ensuring easy access for enforcement actors.

  3. Creating Threatened Species Database. Compiling practical, up-to-date information on priority species, including conservation status and identification guides, so enforcement actors can quickly identify protected fauna and flora.

  4. Creating Wildlife Crime Database and News Round-up. Tracking reported incidents, enforcement actions, and relevant media coverage in one centralized resource, offering insights into threats and successes.

  5. Monitoring Project Performance. Establishing clear metrics and evaluation processes to track the progress and impact of each special project, ensuring resources are used efficiently and outcomes are effectively measured.

By orchestrating Special Projects, the CAR-WEN Working Group implements a strategy of Technical Services Provision and potentially supports all operational strategies outlined in the Working Group’s Strategic Plan. These high-impact, regionally coordinated efforts fill critical gaps, showcase innovative solutions, and further unify Caribbean wildlife enforcement in the face of evolving threats.
