Research & Analysis
Research & Analysis underpins evidence-based decision-making within the CAR-WEN Working Group, providing the data and insights necessary for effective wildlife crime prevention and enforcement.
Our key research & analysis activities include:
Developing Wildlife Enforcement Support Databases. Creating user-friendly databases that track incidents, trends, species involved, enforcement actions, and relevant laws.
Coordinated Knowledge & Needs Assessment. Conducting a baseline data assessment to identify existing resources, gaps, and needs related to wildlife crime.
Producing a Regional Wildlife Crime Report. Collecting and analyzing data to publish a comprehensive report on wildlife crime trends, enforcement gaps, and policy recommendations.
Developing a Competency Registry for Wildlife Guardianship. Developing a registry system to track and certify the skills and qualifications of wildlife enforcement actors.
Developing Scientific Collaborations. Partnering with universities, research institutions, and scholars to explore wildlife crime problems, drivers, and impacts.
By systematically collecting and analyzing data, Research & Analysis empowers CAR-WEN to make informed, proactive decisions about wildlife enforcement. Rooted in our Knowledge Creation & Management strategy detailed in our strategic plan, this program complements and strengthens other programs—ensuring a unified, science-driven approach to protecting the region’s biodiversity.
