Provision of Technical Services

Provision of Technical Services ensures that CAR-WEN member countries and territories have access to the tools, expertise, and resources required for effective wildlife enforcement. Activities include delivering targeted technical assistance programmes, organising specialised training and workshops, providing access to enforcement technologies and species identification databases, establishing expert advisory services, facilitating technology transfer and innovation, supporting the development of standard operating procedures and best practices, and strengthening data management and intelligence-sharing systems. These services are tailored to address specific technical needs, helping members enhance operational efficiency and respond effectively to wildlife crime.

In the CAR-WEN Strategic Plan, Provision of Technical Services is defined as a core operations strategy designed to meet the specialised and evolving needs of governments in combating wildlife crime. It encompasses programmes for advanced skills development, procurement of cutting-edge tools, partnerships with technology providers, the creation of regional guidance materials, and ongoing advisory support. By standardising technical approaches and promoting innovation, this strategy builds capacity across the network while maintaining flexibility to address emerging enforcement challenges.

Looking ahead, the ability of Caribbean nations to keep pace with increasingly sophisticated wildlife crime will depend on sustained access to modern tools, specialised expertise, and harmonised technical practices. Provision of Technical Services will remain critical for ensuring that enforcement agencies can leverage technology effectively, coordinate regionally, and apply consistent methods in the field. Continued investment in this strategy will strengthen the region’s technical foundation for wildlife enforcement and improve outcomes in the fight against wildlife crime.
