National Wildlife Enforcement Networking

National Wildlife Enforcement Networking strengthens the coordination, capacity, and information-sharing of national-level agencies involved in combating wildlife crime. Activities include establishing specialised task forces and prosecutor networks, implementing public wildlife crime hotlines, developing centralised wildlife crime databases, enhancing inter-agency coordination and strategic planning, and delivering joint training programmes for specialised units. These measures improve detection, investigation, and prosecution of wildlife crimes at the country level while fostering stronger connections to the broader CAR-WEN regional framework.

In the CAR-WEN Strategic Plan, National Wildlife Enforcement Networking is presented as an expanded operations strategy aimed at ensuring each member state operates a well-resourced, highly coordinated enforcement network. It brings together capacity assessments, coordination frameworks, secure communication channels, public reporting mechanisms, data-sharing systems, and advanced training for investigators and prosecutors. By aligning these national efforts with the CAR-WEN’s regional objectives, the strategy ensures that local enforcement actions contribute to a united regional response to wildlife crime.

Looking ahead, strengthening national wildlife enforcement networks will be essential for maintaining momentum in the fight against wildlife crime. Improved national capacity, combined with strong links to regional and international partners, will make enforcement more responsive, cohesive, and effective. As national networks mature, they will serve as the operational backbone for sustained wildlife enforcement, enabling the Caribbean to act collectively against evolving threats.
