Knowledge Creation & Management
Knowledge Creation & Management focuses on generating, managing, and sharing information essential for understanding and addressing wildlife crime in the Caribbean. Activities include assessing existing knowledge resources, creating a centralised wildlife crime database, publishing regional reports, developing a competency registry for enforcement personnel, integrating wildlife crime reporting into national systems, and building academic and research partnerships. These efforts ensure that data, analysis, and expertise are accessible and reliable, supporting evidence-based decision-making and coordinated wildlife enforcement.
In the CAR-WEN Strategic Plan, Knowledge Creation & Management is presented as a core operations strategy designed to strengthen regional cooperation and enforcement effectiveness through better information flow. It incorporates a range of initiatives, from designing secure, user-friendly databases and establishing data-sharing agreements to producing actionable reports and integrating reporting into national systems. The strategy also prioritises research collaborations to address knowledge gaps and develop innovative solutions, ensuring that enforcement strategies remain responsive to emerging wildlife crime trends.
Looking ahead, effective knowledge management will be a cornerstone of regional wildlife enforcement. Reliable and accessible information will improve the targeting of enforcement operations, guide legislative and policy reform, and enhance collaboration between countries and sectors. Continued investment in data infrastructure, stakeholder engagement, and research partnerships will enable the Caribbean to anticipate and respond proactively to wildlife crime, strengthening the region’s overall enforcement capacity.
