Evidence of Effective WEN Operations
Evidence of Effective WEN Operations focuses on enhancing the effectiveness of Wildlife Enforcement Networks by systematically analysing successful practices and sharing evidence-based insights. Activities may involve coordinating comprehensive analyses, hosting global workshops to share lessons learned, developing user-friendly digital hubs for best practices, and commissioning external evaluations of the CAR-WEN and other WENs. Together, these efforts help identify proven approaches, scalable solutions, and common pitfalls, enabling WENs to adopt strategies that strengthen wildlife enforcement at both the regional and global levels.
The CAR-WEN Strategic Plan presents Evidence of Effective WEN Operations as an external support strategy—an area where the CAR-WEN can facilitate but cannot fully implement on its own. The Plan calls for external partners to lead or co-create initiatives such as global comparative studies, structured peer-to-peer learning opportunities, regional and international workshops, and independent evaluations. These activities would generate actionable insights that the CAR-WEN can integrate into its own operational framework, ensuring that our approaches reflect tested and successful models from other networks worldwide.
Looking ahead, investing in the systematic study and sharing of WEN performance will help ensure that the CAR-WEN and its partners evolve in step with best practice. By inviting universities, NGOs, intergovernmental bodies, and other WENs to take a lead in these efforts, we can promote continuous learning, adaptation, and innovation across the global wildlife enforcement community. In time, this evidence-based approach will contribute to a stronger, more cohesive network of WENs to deter, detect, and dismantle wildlife crime.
